Artistic Talents in Rang a Sé

Della Cowper Gray, a talented pupil in 6th Class produced a wonderful piece of work for the National Art Competition with Kildare Gallery, which resulted in her becoming a finalist.

Her piece is a happy portrait of her sister Mae, titled "Summer Thoughts".

At times like these, it's particularly wonderful to such inspiring work. Congratulations Della, we are all extremely proud and in awe of your efforts!

Creativity at Home!

This is a fantastic piece of art work from a very talented lady in 6th Class. Leah Keogh has successfully represented Scoil Bhríde in many art competitions over the years, most notably this year winning the Some Like Me initiative. 

Leah, like many, is really missing her time at school with her friends and has created this wonderful piece as a result.

Scoil Bhrìde, Kilcullen Athletics Success 

- County Champions! 

The annual Cumann Na mBuncoil Cross Country Athletics meet took place on Friday 20th April in Hawkfield, Newbridge. The school this year were in both the Large School Boys & Girls for the first time. 

After weeks of school trials and preparation by pupils & teachers which were hampered by weather conditions the boys & girls were ready to give their all on the day. After 2 county team success in the last 3 years in the Intermediate boys race the boys stepped up to the Large schools race for the first time. With 24 teams in the race & 142 competitors they were not overawed & competed magnificently in a field of very high standard runners. 

Finn Cowper Gray led the charge for the boys from pillar to post & came home first individual. A super achievement from a natural athlete to add to last years boys individual win in the Intermediate school race. A unique double for Finn! The winning time was 3min 48secs over the 1250m 

Running tremendous races we had Ryan Dunne 5th, Paddy Taylor 12th & Sam Kelly 14th completing the top 4 for our team position with Tom Cronin, Jack Jordan Doyle & Rory Taylor also running really great races on the day. 

The boys claimed silver medals coming 2nd team overall out of 24 with Ballymany declared winners with Clane in 3rd. A super achievement by the Kilcullen boys. Tadhg Walsh who was also part of the team & put in many days of training was unfortunately injured for the race but supported & assisted greatly in the day. 

The girls large school race followed where the Kilcullen girls were chasing a 4 in a row! There were 25 teams & 162 runners in the girls race. Despite a few pre race nerves the girls really got stuck in as a team & carried out their race strategy brilliantly. 

The Tyrell twins Amy & Leah were trying to build on last years impressive 5th & 7th place finishes & didn’t disappoint. In a very competitive field of runners the girls battled all the way to win individual 2nd & 3rd places. With very tigerish performances, full of gutsy running Alex Connors in 4th & Anna Taylor 17th made up the first 4 for team positions with Marysia Bowens, Kaelah Taffee, Clodagh Kennedy, Emily Larrigan & Della Cowper Gray also running brilliantly on the day. 

Amazingly the girls again did enough to secure the county cup for Kilcullen for the 4th year in a row! A remarkable achievement. Ballymany finished 2nd with St Mary’s Naas in 3rd. Both Amy & Leah Tyrell accepted the cup on behalf of the team from Johnny Doyle. 

Well done to all involved including both Boys & Girls teams for their hard work & dedication, coaches Mr Lloyd & Mr O’Raoghaill, Cumann Na mBunscoil Cill Dara for organising & principal Mrs Flanagan for her support. 

Scoil Bhríde Abù

6th Class Boys Shark League 

This year the boys from sixth class played in a league for a game called sharks. Sharks is a game were you through a toy called a shark to your teamates. If the shark hits the ground it is the other teams ball.  The team with the most consequetive passes wins. The team without the shark must try to intercept the shark. A shark is an oval shaped ball with  a rod protruding from the bottom. The rod has finns. 

The teams were Great Whites, Hamerheads, Tigers and Goblins. There was six rounds and each team played each other twice. you got two points for a win and one point if you were within five points of the winner. In the end the Tigers one with eleven points, Great Whites came joint second with Hamerheads on eight points and finaly the Goblins on six points.

6th Class Willow 

Green Schools News

This year the greens schools committee and all of the children are working towards the school's fifth green flag for biodiversity. We already have four green flags: the recycling/waste flag, the water flag, the energy flag and the travel flag. 

We had a renewal visit on February 20^th for our fifth green flag.  Dara Wyer from Kildare County Council met with the Green Schools Committee and talked with them about all of the work that is being done in our school to help our environment.  

We are still recycling in each classroom and conserving energy and water.  Every Wednesday we have a competition in the school called Walk on Wednesday. This encourages the children to leave their cars at home and walk, scoot or cycle to school. If you live far away you have the option to park and stride or car pool. We have a golden boot for the junior end of the school and a different one for the senior students. If your class wins, your teacher will give you a reward or a prize.

Beside the junior yard the Green Schools Committee have started a new school garden. Some of the classes and the Green Schools Committee will be growing peas, beetroot, potatoes, herbs, strawberries, and ornamental gourds in the garden. It is too early to sow any of our vegetables outdoors, but the children are busy growing them from seed in their classrooms, and when the weather gets warmer they will be planted out.  Hopefully the garden will look good when it is finished! 

 We are also hoping to hold our Action Day for Biodiversity after the Easter Holidays.  The children will be asked to dress up on the day and an activity has been organised for each class. We will also be taking part in An Taisce’s National Spring Clean for the month of April, and will be picking litter around our school grounds each week for the month.  

Our Green Schools Notice board has all of our news on it and it is located outside Ms. Carney’s room, 3^rd Class.

6th Class Projects

6th Class Rowan were busy creating projects on Unusual Sea Creatures! They worked very hard, and presented plenty of interesting facts to the class! Well Done Rang a Sé!

6th Class and infants came together today to share their favourite toys! Great fun was had by all!

U11 Girls Gaelic Football

  The U11 Girls Gaelic Football Team for the school had a fantastic season.We first played Ballymany and we only just beat them. Luckily that match was a home game. Our second match was against Monasterevin and we beat them. This match was away and we were on a winning streak now. A week later we played Kildare Town. We knew that they would be tough but we gladly beat them,this was also a home game on our school pitch.

  We played Kill, this match was away.We came home after this match victorious and keeping our winnng streak alive which meant that we had not lost a game yet but were still training hard to try and beat Clane the best team in the league. The day finally came and we felt ready to take them on. Once again we came home victorious and beat them by only a goal. This meant we were through to the semi-final. We were all estatic. 

   It was the day before the semi-final. The team was picked, the coaches were ready, we were ready it was time to go into battle. It was the next day, the day of the semi-finals. We were ready to take on Monasterevin for the second time. We were all very nervous thinking about reaching the final. We were all absolutely delighted to beat this amazing team. This meant that we were one step closer to be coming county champions.

    A few days before the final we figured out that we were playing Ballymany. We were so nervous and feeling the pressure and it was still 3 days before the final. It was the day of our final and our captain was chosen. It was Zara Hurley  and Jenna Hegarty as our co-captain. We had amazing supporters and we were super excited to just be crowned county champions yet again .

• Angler fish have the ability to kill prey of all different sizes.
• Their light-up bacteria is called photoplankton .

6th Class Basketball

Scoil Bhríde Basketball

Basketball in Scoil Bhríde is played by many boys and girls in all three 6th classes.

Our Basketball coaches, Mr. Kenny and Mr. Reilly, allow all kids who participate, to get involved with all matches. 

So far this season, we have played against four schools. The girls' team have won three and lost one.

The boys lost three matches, won one and our fourth match is not played yet.

If interested in joining, you can contact Mr. Kenny or Mr. Reilly and ask for info.

6th Class Willow 

Camogie Blitz

On Monday the 23rd of October the under 11 girls Camogie had a blitz in Laurence's .There was five teams Kilcullen, St. Laurence's N.S , Kilmead N.S , Nurney  N.S and Athy N.S. All the teams played very well but luckily we won all four matches. We got a really nice trophy we are getting and are presented with medals soon. We have two very good coaches Ms. Burke and Ms. Driscoll.

We trained every Thursday for a couple of weeks. We trained after school outside on the pitch. If it was raining we would train inside in the new hall. We achieved by training hard and listening to our coaches!

SCOIL BHRÍDE CHRISTMAS FAIR

This is a blog about the christmas fair our school had a last Sunday the 3rd December. 

For our art in 6th class Christmas Fair Art we made a candle holder out of a log. 

You will need to make it..........

• A Log    
• Dust pan and brush (to clean the mess)
• A Drill  (Caretaker Joe helped us here!) 
• Decorations  (A little Robin, some cones and holly) 
• Paint (1 coat, perhaps 2 if it dries too much) 
• Glitter, silver is best.
• Fake snow is optional. 
• A candle 

Method 

Drill a small hole in the middle of the log (to hold a candle) clean the mess, slot in the candle and make sure it wont wobble (if so glue it in place). You can paint it a bit to give it a snowy affect. Last thing to do now is to DECORATE (this part is optional you dont have to do it but it looks lovely if you do)!
