WE ARE LEANING HOW TO PLAY CHESS!
In 6th class Hazel our Teacher has started to teach us some chess skills.
Here are a few guidelines on how to play chess!
- Players must always shake hands before and after games.
- White always starts the game.
- One piece-one square.
- When setting up your board a white square should always be on your right
This week we started learning how to use the pawn and the rook piece.
The Pawn
The Pawn
- White pawns start on rank 2, black pawns on rank 7.
- Pawns can move only one space forward at any time except for their first move when each pawn has the choice of moving one or two spaces forward.
- Pawns can capture other pieces by moving one space diagonally to the left or right.
The Rook
- The Rooks begin on the extreme corners of the board.
- The rook moves horizontally and vertically any number of squares, forwards or backwards.
- A Rook cannot move through or jump pieces but can capture opposition pieces in its way.
